Buying and selling
safely on ListU.
ListU is built around trust — verified accounts, structured seller classification, and operator governance. This page explains what the platform does to keep users safe, and what you can do to protect yourself.

What ListU does
to protect you.
Account classification at registration
Every account is classified as Private User or Business User from the point of registration. Buyers always know whether they are dealing with a private individual or a commercial seller.
Tiered identity verification
Email, phone, and government-issued ID verification create measurable trust tiers. Verification badges are visible to buyers on every listing and seller profile — so you can see exactly how much has been confirmed.
In-platform messaging
All initial contact between buyers and sellers goes through ListU's messaging system. Your personal contact details — phone number and email — are not shared until you choose to share them.
Operator-governed listing standards
Listing standards are set and enforced by Valentino Platinum Ltd, the registered UK operator. Listings that breach platform standards are reviewed and removed. The operator is named and legally accountable.
Fraud and scam reporting
All users can report listings or accounts they believe to be fraudulent or misleading. Reports are reviewed directly. Accounts found to be operating in bad faith are suspended or removed.
For buyers
How to buy safely
on ListU.
Check the seller's verification tier
Before contacting a seller, review their verification badges. Email, phone, and ID verification are displayed on every profile. Higher tiers indicate greater identity accountability.
Use in-platform messaging first
Communicate through ListU's messaging system before sharing your personal contact details. This keeps a record of your conversation and protects your privacy.
Arrange viewings carefully
For physical items, arrange viewings in well-lit, public places where possible. For high-value purchases, bring someone with you. Never hand over payment before a full inspection.
Never pay in advance without verification
Do not pay deposits or full payment before viewing an item or confirming its existence. Legitimate sellers do not require payment before viewing for standard classified transactions.
Red flags to watch for
Seller asks you to communicate off-platform immediately
Price is significantly below obvious market value
Seller is unavailable to meet in person or via video
Requests for upfront payment before viewing
Requests for payment via bank transfer, gift cards, or cryptocurrency
Listing photos appear to be from other sources or look professional/stock
Urgency pressure — "another buyer is interested, pay now"
Fraud awareness
Common scam patterns
on classified platforms.
Advance fee fraud
Seller requests a deposit or holding fee before you have viewed the item. The item does not exist and the seller disappears after payment.
Warning signals
Payment requested before viewing. Reluctance to meet. Too-good-to-be-true price.
Phishing and off-platform redirect
Seller asks you to continue the conversation on a different platform (WhatsApp, Telegram, email) where they can operate outside ListU's protections.
Warning signals
Immediate request to move off-platform. Suspicious links. Requests for personal information.
Fake escrow or payment services
Scammer introduces a fake payment protection or escrow service that appears legitimate. Funds sent to the "escrow" are stolen.
Warning signals
Unfamiliar payment service. Pressure to use specific payment method. ListU does not operate an escrow service.
Non-existent rental or property
Fraudulent property or rental listings that collect deposits or referencing fees for properties the scammer does not own or control.
Warning signals
Rent below market rate. Landlord abroad or unavailable. Requests for fees before viewing.
Vehicle cloning and VIN fraud
Fraudulent Vehicles listings using cloned identities, false VIN numbers, or stolen vehicle identities to sell non-existent or stolen vehicles.
Warning signals
Price below market. Reluctance to provide V5C. Unwillingness to allow independent inspection.
Overpayment scam
Fake buyer sends a payment that exceeds the listing price and asks the seller to refund the difference. The original payment is fraudulent and is reversed.
Warning signals
Buyer offers to overpay. Requests for bank transfer refund. Unnecessary complexity.
For sellers
Selling safely
and with accountability.
Keep communication in-platform
Use ListU's messaging system for all initial contact with buyers. Moving to personal channels early removes the platform's record of the conversation.
Do not accept overpayment
If a buyer offers more than your asking price and requests a refund of the difference, treat it as a fraud signal. Decline and report the account.
Verify buyer intent before sharing details
Before sharing your address, phone number, or other personal information, confirm the buyer's identity and intent through the platform's messaging record.
Be accurate in your listings
Listing descriptions must accurately represent the item. Misleading descriptions — whether intentional or not — can result in listing removal and account review.
Business sellers must classify correctly
If you sell commercially — regularly, for profit, or as part of a business activity — you must use a Business User account. Misclassification is a platform policy breach.
Report suspicious buyers
If a buyer behaves suspiciously — requests off-platform payment, offers to overpay, or pressures you to act urgently — report the account immediately via the platform.
