Motors
Motors category rules
Applies to cars, motorcycles, vans, caravans, and all motorised vehicles. Listings must accurately represent the vehicle's registration, history, and condition.
Required for every listing
- ✓Full registration number (displayed partially to buyers)
- ✓Make, model, year of manufacture, and variant
- ✓Current mileage at time of listing
- ✓MOT expiry date (where applicable)
- ✓Number of previous owners
- ✓Service history status (full / partial / none)
- ✓Minimum 5 exterior and interior photographs
- ✓Condition grade (Excellent / Good / Fair / Poor)
Prohibited
- ✕Vehicles without a valid UK registration
- ✕Vehicles with outstanding finance listed as unencumbered
- ✕Odometer readings known to be tampered or rolled back
- ✕Salvage or Category S/N vehicles not clearly disclosed
- ✕HPI-clear claims without a valid certificate
- ✕Listing a vehicle on behalf of another person without authority
Sellers are not required to provide an HPI check, but any HPI-related claims in the listing must be accurate. Buyers are always advised to obtain their own independent check before purchase.
Property
Property category rules
Applies to residential sales, residential lettings, commercial property, and land. Property listings are subject to additional obligations under UK consumer protection legislation.
Required for every listing
- ✓Full address (at minimum postcode and street name)
- ✓Property type (flat, terraced, semi-detached, detached, etc.)
- ✓Number of bedrooms
- ✓Tenure (freehold / leasehold / shared ownership)
- ✓Sale or let — not both in the same listing
- ✓Asking price or monthly rent in GBP
- ✓Minimum 3 interior and exterior photographs
- ✓EPC rating (where legally required)
Prohibited
- ✕Properties that do not exist or are not available
- ✕Listings by agents without authority from the owner
- ✕Holiday lets in breach of planning consent
- ✕"Available now" listings for properties with existing tenants
- ✕New-build properties marketed without developer authorisation
- ✕Listings with materially misleading floor plans or dimensions
Jobs
Jobs category rules
Applies to employment, freelance, contract, and part-time roles. Job listings must represent genuine opportunities and comply with UK employment law.
Required for every listing
- ✓Job title and role description
- ✓Employment type (full-time, part-time, contract, freelance)
- ✓Location or remote / hybrid designation
- ✓Salary range or hourly rate (or "competitive" with justification)
- ✓Company or trading name of the employer
- ✓Application method and closing date
Prohibited
- ✕Roles requiring upfront payment from the applicant
- ✕Multi-level marketing or pyramid scheme roles
- ✕Roles that discriminate on protected characteristics
- ✕Jobs requiring illegal activity
- ✕Listings from recruiters without employer authority
- ✕"Work from home" listings with upfront kit or registration fees
Pets
Pets category rules
ListU is committed to animal welfare. All Pets listings must comply with applicable UK animal welfare standards. Non-compliant listings are removed without notice.
Required for every listing
- ✓Age of animal (minimum 8 weeks for puppies and kittens)
- ✓Microchip number (mandatory for dogs)
- ✓Veterinary health check confirmation
- ✓Vaccination status
- ✓Breed and sex clearly stated
- ✓KC registration status (if applicable)
- ✓Breeder or rescue organisation name
- ✓Real photographs of the actual animal
Prohibited
- ✕Puppies or kittens under 8 weeks of age
- ✕Animals without microchip (dogs must be chipped by law)
- ✕Wild-caught animals
- ✕Endangered or protected species
- ✕Animals listed with stock photos instead of real photos
- ✕Listings that cannot evidence animal welfare conditions
- ✕Third-party sales of puppies or kittens (prohibited under UK law)
Third-party sales of puppies and kittens are prohibited under UK law. All Pets listings must be from the animal's current carer — breeder or rescue centre.
Services
Services category rules
Applies to all service listings: tradespeople, professional services, tutoring, cleaning, photography, and all other service providers.
Required for every listing
- ✓Clear description of the service provided
- ✓Service area or location
- ✓Pricing model (hourly, fixed, or quote-based)
- ✓Business name or trading name
- ✓Contact method or booking link
- ✓Relevant qualifications or insurance (for regulated trades)
Prohibited
- ✕Regulated financial services without appropriate authorisation
- ✕Legal advice presented as professional legal services without SRA registration
- ✕Medical diagnosis or prescription services
- ✕Gambling or lottery services
- ✕Services that facilitate illegal activity
- ✕Adult or escort services
- ✕Fake review or social media engagement services
Some service types are regulated by UK bodies (e.g. FCA for financial services, SRA for legal services). Listing a regulated service without the required authorisation is a policy violation and may carry legal consequences.
For Sale
For Sale category rules
The For Sale category covers physical goods that do not belong in a more specific vertical — furniture, electronics, clothing, collectables, and general household goods.
Required for every listing
- ✓Accurate item description and condition
- ✓Real photographs of the actual item
- ✓Asking price in GBP
- ✓Collection location or postage availability
- ✓Age of item where material to condition
Prohibited
- ✕Counterfeit or replica goods presented as genuine
- ✕Items that belong in a specific vertical (e.g. cars must be listed in Motors)
- ✕Items without a clear description of condition
- ✕Recalled or legally banned consumer products
- ✕Items the seller does not have legal right to sell
